Tigre (Argentina) vs Libertad (Paraguay)
Tigre couldn’t hold onto their 1-0 lead and ended up succumbing to a heartbreaking 2-1 away defeat at Libertad in the first leg last Thursday. That result means they will need to win here in order to keep their hope alive. On Monday, the side also lost 1-0 at home against Barracas Central. As a result, El Matador registered five defeats across their last six matches in all competitions, along with a single victory. Juan Manuel Sara’s men dropped down to the 21st spot of the Liga Profesional table on 28 points, leading Huracan (who are currently losing their top-flight status) by nine. Tigre also are on two losses in a row at Estadio Jose Dellagiovanna.
Libertad took a massive 2-1 home success over Tigre at Estadio Defensores del Chaco after reversing the score through goals from Lorenzo Melgarejo and Oscar Cardozo, which means they will reach the Copa Sudamericana round-of-16 in the event of avoiding the defeat here. On Sunday, El Gumarelo won 3-0 away at Guarani to make it six points from six on offer in the Paraguayan Torneo Clausura and became the only league leaders (in fact, they also are the defending champions). Libertad are on five matches unbeaten in all competitions, having won three and drawn two. On away turf, they won four of the last six, along with two losses.
Tigre has been too poor lately, and some of their best players will leave very soon, to hold against this solid Libertad who only need a draw to advance and should be able to get it.
