Rosario Central (Argentina) – Internacional (Brazil)
Rosario Central failed to qualify for the Copa Libertadores round-of-16 following their 2-1 away defeat at Penarol in a hard-fought clash in May. As a result, they ended up in third spot of the group G table on seven points and will face this playoff. Still waiting for the Liga Profesional to resume, El Canalla accumulated six points in five matches so far and remain far away from the fight for a continental ticket for next season. Last Monday, Miguel Russo’s men lost 1-0 to Barracas Central in the Copa Argentina second round to make it four matches without a win in all competitions (two draws and two losses). At home, Central won only one of the last six, drawing three and losing two in that spell.
SC Internacional are also experiencing times of trouble. A 1-0 home success over SC Delfin at Estadio Alfredo Jaconi on June 8th was enough to hold onto the second spot of the group C table on 11 points and advance to the Copa Sudamericana playoffs, but the team have been getting worse since then. In fact, coach Eduardo Coudet is already gone and the club were knocked out of the Copa de Brasil last Saturday, when they drew 1-1 away at Juventude and lost 3-2 on aggregate in the round-of-32. Speaking of the league, O Colorado are sitting into 12th place of the table on 19 points (with three games in hand though). Overall, Inter remain winless in the last six competitive matches (drawing three and losing three), but on a positive note, they lost only one of the last eight as the visiting side, with four victories and three stalemates.
Inter are not looking good lately, they are in mid-table in the brazilian league and got knocked out of Copa Brasil, what caused that coach Coudet left and they are now under an interim coach. Rosario Central has a good opportunity here and I expect them to at least avoid a defeat.
