Racing Club managed an important point on their visit to SC Corinthians last Thursday, when they drew 2-2 in a thrilling game. On Sunday, coach Gustavo Costas fielded an alternative XI, who ended up losing 2-1 away at Banfield. That result means La Academia remain on 28 points in the Liga Profesional, wasting the chance of entering the Copa Libertadores’ zone in the aggregate table. Overall, Gustavo Costas’ men won only one of their last five competitive matches, along with two draws and two losses. At home, Racing have been unbeaten in their last six matches, winning four and drawing two since losing to Gimnasia LP 1-0 in August.

Meanwhile, SC Corinthians wasted a good chance of taking the first step towards the Copa Sudamericana last Thursday, when they couldn’t hold onto their lead and had to settle for a 2-2 home stalemate against Racing Club. On Monday, the team managed a massive 1-0 away success at Cuiaba EC to climb out of the relegation zone in the Brasileirao table: they made it 35 points in 31 matches, now advantaging Red Bull Bragantino (in 17th) by one. El Timao have been unbeaten in their last five in all competitions, with two wins and three draws, but they won just two of their last eight on away turf, drawing one and losing five.

Racing has come back to their usual good attacking football lately scoring 7 goals over the last 3 games, but at the same time they’ve looked poorly in defense conceding the same amount. Last week’s draw was an open game with chances for both side and I expect this 2nd leg to be similar.
