Newell’s (Argentina) vs Corinthians (Brazil)
Newell’s Old Boys are in need of a win at home here following their 2-1 away defeat to SC Corinthians last Tuesday despite having taken the first lead. After their irregular campaign in the Liga Profesional, La Lepra are now without a win in their last four matches in all competitions, having drawn two and lost two since beating Independiente 2-0 away from home in early July. Newell’s are without defeat in their last ten home matches, having won four and drawn six.
SC Corinthians took a valuable advantage in the first leg via a 2-1 home success over Newell’s Old Boys, with Yuri Alberto and Wesley Gassova finding the back of the net. On Saturday, O Timao drew 2-2 away at SC Internacional to stay producing a poor campaign in the Brazilian league table, accumulating 20 points in 17 games to occupy 14th spot of the respective table. However, the side are unbeaten in their last nine matches in all competitions, with seven victories and two draws. Four of those matches took place on the road, with Corinthians winning two and drawing two.
Corinthians is the best team of these two, Newell’s must win so they will expose themselves defensively at some point and I don’t think that the brazilians will have any trouble holding onto their 1st game lead.
