Montevideo City Torque (Uruguay) – Deportivo Riestra (Argentina)
Montevideo City Torque continue to move steadily forward in the Copa Sudamericana. Thanks to a goal from Franco Pizzichillo in the 51st minute, the team defeated CD Palestino 1–0 at home at the Estadio Centenario on Matchday 4. As a result, they remained top of Group F with nine points and need just one more to secure at least a spot in the playoff. On Friday, Marcelo Méndez’s side lost 2–1 at home to Nacional in the opening round of the Torneo Intermedio, dropping to seventh place in the overall Uruguayan Championship standings with 23 points from 16 matches.
Deportivo Riestra were unable to cope with Gremio FBPA’s quality and suffered a heavy 3–0 defeat on Matchday 4, playing as hosts at San Lorenzo’s stadium. As a result, they remain third in Group F with four points, three behind their last opponent, who sit second, and another defeat would eliminate them from the competition. El Malevo have not played in the league since then after failing to qualify for the Torneo Apertura playoffs. That defeat also ended a three-match unbeaten run across all competitions (two wins and one draw). Riestra are now winless in their last 12 away matches (five draws and seven defeats).
City Torque can almost secure a place in the next round with a win, they are in good form in this competition and they should be able to beat this Riestra that are almost eliminated with only 4 points in 4 games.
