Metropolitanos are currently struggling in the Copa Sudamericana. In week two, the team ended up losing 2-0 to Brazil’s Cuiaba EC as the hosting side. As a result, they remain pointless and bottom in group G. Last Friday, Los Violetas won 2-0 as hosts over Angostura to climb into sixth spot of the Venezuelan league table on 21 points in 13 rounds, securing a ticket to the next round. Metropolitanos are on two consecutive victories in all competitions and they lost only one of their last six home matches, winning two and drawing three.

Lanus secured their first Copa Sudamericana victory in 2024 last time out, when they claimed a hard-fought 2-1 home success over Peruvian side Deportivo Garcilaso, with Felipe Pena and Walter Bou scoring. El Granate made it four points in two rounds, occupying second spot in group G and trailing leaders Cuiaba EC (who have already played in round three) by one. Last week, Ricardo Zielinski’s men lost to Estudiantes 2-1 at home, wasting their chance of advancing to the Copa Liga Profesional playoffs (dropping down to the sixth spot in the group B table on 23 points). Lanus won only one of their last five competitive matches, along with two draws and two defeats. They lost to Racing Club 2-0 in the last away game, stopping a five-match unbeaten streak of four victories and one draw on the road.

With 0 points and 5 goals conceded after 2 games, Metropolitanos are one of the weakest teams in this competition. Lanus wants to retake the 1st place of the group, for that they need a win and considering only the 1st place goes directly to the Round of 16, they can’t afford to leave any points behind.
