Copa Sudamericana: Lanus vs Sao Paulo Odds – Oct 28, 2020

Lanus advanced to the Copa Sudamericana’s second round in spite of having lost 2-0 away to Ecuador’s Universidad Catolica thanks to their 3-0 home win in the first leg. The team has not yet returned to action after their 1-0 home defeat to Argentinos Juniors in March, which prevented them from qualifying to the Copa Libertadores 2021. Lanus haven’t claimed any victories in their last six competitive matches, with three draws and three defeats. Three of those took place at Nestor Diaz Perez Stadium, with the hosts taking only two points in that span.

Sao Paulo was transferred to the Copa Sudamericana after finishing in the third spot of the Libertadores’ group D in spite of having beaten Deportivo Binacional 5-1 at home last week. On Sunday, they won on penalties after a 2-2 home draw with Fortaleza (5-5 on aggregate), advancing to the quarter-finals. In the league, Sao Paulo is fifth-placed on 27 points, eight behind leaders but with three games in hand. In fact, the team are unbeaten in the last seven competitive games (three wins and four draws in regular time). Three of those were on the road, having taken five points in that spell.

Lanus with some important players gone will have to deal in the first official game in a very long time with a dangerous Sao Paulo that wants to recover after their Copa Libertadores elimination, and while I favour the visitors here I also think that we should see an open game with the hosts dealing with a very long period of inactivity.
