Lanus (Argentina) – Metropolitanos (Venezuela)
Lanus took a big step in their fight to advance in the Copa Sudamericana by beating Deportivo Garcilaso 2-0 away in Peru in round four thanks to goals from Walter Bou and Marcelino Moreno. El Granate are leaders in group G on ten points, two above Cuiaba EC in second. On Sunday, coach Ricardo Zielinski fielded a mostly alternative XI and his team ended up losing 2-0 to newcomers Independiente Rivadavia at home in their Liga Profesional debut. That defeat put an end to a two-match winning run and also means Lanus won only one of the last six at home (along with two draws and three losses).
Metropolitanos FC are one of the worst teams in the Copa Sudamericana at the moment. Last time out, the team were dominated from beginning to end and succumbed to a 3-0 away defeat to Cuiaba EC (their only loss across the last five competitive matches, winning three and drawing one; and also a result that stopped their three-match unbeaten streak of two wins and one draw on away turf), which left them out of the race for a ticket to the playoffs: Los Violetas are pointless in group G, having lost all four matches so far.
0 points and 10 goals conceded for Metropolitanos in 4 games so they are obviously already eliminated from this competition. Lanus are leading the group by 2 points with 2 games left so a win here is a must for them to try to secure the 1st place and advance to the Round of 16, so nothing but a big win can be expected here.
