Independiente Medellin (Colombia) – Lanus (Argentina)
Independiente Medellin managed an important point on their visit to Lanus last Wednesday, drawing 0-0 in an intense match, which means they will reach the Copa Sudamericana semi-finals in the event of winning at home. They are currently a different reality in league action: a 1-0 home defeat to Deportes Tolima last Sunday means El Poderoso de la Montana remain on eight points in nine matches in the Torneo Finalizacion, six behind the last playoff berth. The team are on three without a win in all competitions (drawing two and losing one). Sunday’s loss stopped Medellin’s ten-match unbeaten streak of seven victories and three stalemates as the hosting side.
Meanwhile, Lanus fans will have felt frustrated after their scoreless home draw against Independiente Medellin as the team had two controversial goals disallowed during the game. On Sunday, El Granate lost 3-0 away at Huracan, extending their winless run to five competitive matches (four stalemates and one defeat). Ricardo Zielinski’s men remain on 19 points in the Liga Profesional, which is however enough to stay into the Copa Sudamericana spots in the aggregate table. On away turf, Lanus won only one of the last eight, drawing four and losing three.
The 1st leg was a scoreless draw where Lanus had lots of good chances to score but fail them. I expect this to be an open game, Lanus has a fast attack with Moreno and Bou so they can play on counters, and a goal should open things up so I’ll go for the OVER.
