Huracan (Argentina) vs Emelec (Ecuador)
Huracan had to settle for a 1-1 home draw against Uruguay’s Danubio in their last Copa Sudamericana group game. It’s all level after three rounds in group B: each squad managed four points so far, but El Globo are leaders via goal difference. Last Sunday, they also drew 0-0 away at Sarmiento in league action to accumulate 18 points in 17 rounds, which is a disappointing campaign. In fact, the team are on four competitive matches, without a win, drawing three and losing one. Huracan lost only one of their last six at home, along with two victories and three stalemates.
CS Emelec drew 1-1 away at Guarani to make it four points in three rounds in group B, now occupying third spot on four points as a result of their goal difference, but anything can happen as all teams are level. El Bombillo lost 3-2 away at Universidad Catolica Quito last Saturday. They are producing a poor campaign in the Ecuadorian league, having grabbed nine points in 11 matches so far. Emelec are on six matches without a win in all competitions (four draws and two defeats) and they remain winless in their last 11 on away turf, drawing five and losing six.
This is the most balanced group in this competition: all teams have 4 points with 3 games left and it’s impossible to predict who will advance, so I expect both teams to play cautious football and considering how much both have struggled lately, I can’t imagine an open game.
