Danubio (Uruguay) vs (Argentina)
Danubio took a step back in their fight to qualify for the Copa Sudamericana playoff round last time out, when they lost 2-0 to Paraguay’s Guarani playing as hosts at Estadio Centenario. As a result, they are now bottom in the group B table on four points, but hold the chance of climbing into second in the event of winning here. On Saturday, they drew 1-1 away at Montevideo Wanderers in the Torneo Intermedio opener. La Franja are winless in their last ten matches in all competitions, drawing four and losing six. They hosted four of those, with two stalemates and two defeats.
Huracan wasted a big chance of climbing into second spot of the group B table in round four, when they drew 2-2 at home against Ecuador’s CS Emelec after conceding the equaliser in the 86th minute. Therefore, El Globo are now sitting in third on five points, one behind their last opponents, who have already played their fifth game. On Saturday, Sebastian Battaglia’s men lost 2-0 away at CA Central Cordoba, which means they remain on 18 points in the league table and are now one of the squads who would be involved in a relegation playoff if the season ended now. Huracan are without a win in their last seven competitive games, having drawn four and lost three in that stretch. On away turf, they haven’t won any of the last 12, with four stalemates and eight losses since beating Defensa y Justicia 4-2 in January.
Huracan has been just terrible lately, Danubio can’t afford to lose here and I expect them to get something from this game like they did on the reversed fixture at Argentina.
