Boca Juniors (Argentina) – Sportivo Trinidense (Paraguay)
Boca Juniors had to settle for a scoreless away draw at Nacional Potosi in the Copa Sudamericana opener, an important result considering coach Diego Martinez fielded an alternative XI but Dario Benedetto missed a penalty in the first half. On Saturday, El Xeneize won 3-1 away at Newell’s Old Boys to take a giant step towards the Copa Liga Profesional playoffs: they are now sitting in fourth spot of the group B table despite holding one game in hand. The side are unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions, winning four and drawing one. As hosts, Boca haven’t lost any of the last six (four victories and two stalemates).
Meanwhile, Sportivo Trinidense experienced a rough debut in this Copa Sudamericana, losing 2-0 to Brazil’s Fortaleza EC last week, when playing as hosts at Estadio Defensores del Chaco. On Saturday, the team were beaten by Cerro Porteno as the hosting side, which places them in the penultimate spot of the Paraguayan Torneo Apertura table, having grabbed just seven points in 12 matches so far. El Triki are on three consecutive defeats in all competitions. On a positive note, they won 2-1 at Guarani in the last away match to stop a two-game losing streak on the road.
Can’t see Boca, who are looking better every week lately, finding any trouble to beat one of the worst teams of the paraguayan league, who is debuting in an international competition for the first time in their history.
