America Mineiro (Brazil) – Defensa y Justicia (Argentina)
America Mineiro took a big point on their visit to Millonarios in week three, when drawing 1-1 in Colombia through a goal from Felipe Azevedo. However, the team are now sitting in third spot of the group F table with four points in three games, trailing Defensa y Justicia by two and their last opponents by three. Last Saturday, they claimed the first victory of the league season by beating Fortaleza EC 2-1 at home. However, Vagner Mancini’s men are sitting in the penultimate spot of the Brasileirao, accumulating four points in seven games. However, America won their last two games in all competitions (both at home).
Defensa y Justicia showed an excellent display of football in their last Copa Sudamericana game, thrashing Uruguay’s Penarol 4-1 at home. Julio Vaccari’s men are now sitting into second place in group F on six points, just one behind Millonarios with three games to go. However, El Halcon are on three winless games since then, drawing two and losing one following their 2-1 away loss at Rosario Central last Friday. However, Defensa are performing well in the Liga Profesional, occupying sixth spot on 29 points. On away turf, they won four, drew two and lost three in 2023.
America are almost in a must win situation here because a defeat could almost eliminate them, what means they will have to take risks. Five out of the six games combined of these two teams in this competition had 3+ goals (and the other one was a 1-1 draw between Millonarios and America) and I expect this trend to continue here.
