Velez vs Talleres
Velez Sarsfield showed an enormous effort to clinch the scoreless draw they needed to overcome River Plate on the road after beating them 1-0 at home. Last Friday, El Fortin registered a 1-1 away draw at Godoy Cruz to continue performing a poor league campaign, having earned only nine points in 11 matches. In fact, Alexander Medina’s men are on seven winless games in all competition, having drawn five and lost two in that spell. Three of those matches took place at Estadio Jose Amalfitani, where Velez registered two stalemates and one loss.
Meanwhile, Talleres managed to beat Colon 2-0 away in the return leg thanks to goals from Federico Girotti and Angelo Martino to reach the Copa Libertadores top eight for the first time in history. Since then, they won only one match out of their last four, drawing one and losing two. The team had their home match against Union Santa Fe postponed last weekend, so they haven’t seen any action since July 25th, when drawing 1-1 away at San Lorenzo. La T made it nine points in ten matches in the Liga Profesional and remain bottom in the 2022 aggregate table, Talleres are quite irregular on the road: they won one, drew three and lost two of the last six as the visiting side.
Neither are in great form but Velez comes from eliminating a big team like River and their coach managed Talleres not long ago so he should know his ex team weaknesses and take advantage of them.
