Velez (Argentina) – Bragantino (Brazil)
Velez Sarsfield suffered a heavy blow on their 2022 Copa Libertadores debut last Thursday, losing 4-1 away at Estudiantes. Just two days after, interim boss Julio Vaccari rotated some of his regulars and the team registered a 0-0 home draw against Boca Juniors. As a result, El Fortin claimed a single victory across their last six matches in all competitions, drawing three and losing two. Speaking of the league, the side are on ten points after the first nine rounds, far away from the playoff spots. At home, Velez hold a 15-match unbeaten streak of nine victories and six draws.
Red Bull Bragantino played their first ever Copa Libertadores match last week, when they beat Nacional (from Uruguay) 2-0 at home with Ytalo and Jan Hurtado scoring. Last Monday, coach Mauricio Barbieri rotated his players and the team drew 2-2 away at Juventude in the Brazilian league opener. O Braga succumbed to a single defeat across their last five competitive matches, winning two and drawing two in that time. On a sorry note, they are on four without a win on away turf, registering one stalemate and three defeats since beating Novorizontino 3-0 in February.
Velez has been awful this year and they won’t have their captain Lautaro Gianneti who suffered a severe knee injury and will be out for months, while Bragantino is a tough brazilian team and they should be able to take something from this game.
