Tigre is yet to earn points in the Copa Libertadores following their 4-1 away defeat to Guarani last Thursday. They are bottom in Group B, but this game against Bolivar might be a key to fight for a place in the Copa Sudamericana’s round of 32. Considering Argentine football has not returned yet, that loss also means El Matador have suffered four consecutive defeats in all competitions (two of them at home).
Bolivar succumbed to a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to group leaders Palmeiras last Wednesday, which means they remain in third spot of Group B on three points, three behinds Guarani who are currently qualifying for next round. Bolivian football remains suspended due to the pandemic and Bolivar are third-placed in the Torneo Apertura table, one point behind leaders The Strongest and Always Ready after 12 rounds. Overall, the side claimed a single win in their last six competitive matches (drawing two and losing three), but it was over Tigre in gameweek two. On away turf, they lost five of the last six, just beating Santa Cruz 4-2 in February.
Tigre is in 2nd division in Argentina and they are using this tournament basically as practice before their league starts again in a few weeks. With nothing to lose, they are playing open football as shown in their 1-4 defeat last week at Paraguay, and I expect the same thing to happen in this game.
