Talleres (Argentina) vs Velez (Argentina)
Talleres fans will have felt gutted after the team’s heartbreaking 3-2 away defeat at Velez Sarsfield after conceding in stoppage time. La T need to claim a home victory to stay alive in the Copa Libertadores. On Saturday, Pedro Caixinha’s men won 2-0 at home over Argentinos Juniors to make it 12 points in 11 games in the Liga Profesional (they have one in hand) and leave the bottom spot in the 2022 aggregate table. In fact, Talleres lost only one of their last four competitive games, winning two and drawing one. At home, they are on two wins in a row without even conceding.
Julian Fernandez’s goal in the 90th minute allowed Velez Sarsfield to take a massive 3-2 home success over Talleres on their dream to reach the Copa Libertadores top four for the first time since 2011. On a sorry note, an alternative XI ended up losing 2-1 away at Union Santa Fe last Saturday, which means El Fortin won only one of their last nine matches in all competitions, drawing five and losing three. Speaking of the league, Alexander Medina’s men managed only nine points in 12 rounds so far. On away turf, Velez are on eight matches without a win (five stalemates and three defeats since beating Nacional 3-2 in Uruguay).
Last week’s 1st leg was a very entertaining 3-2 thriller but I expect to see a more tight game here as Velez will try to hold to their lead.
