Copa Libertadores: River Plate (Argentina) vs Talleres (Argentina) Odds for August 21, 2024

River Plate (Argentina) vs Talleres (Argentina)

River Plate couldn’t show their best version but still were able to secure a massive 1-0 away success at Talleres in the first leg thanks to a strike from Paulo Diaz in the 85th minute, which means they just need to avoid defeat at home. On Saturday, coach Marcelo Gallardo fielded an alternative XI and his men drew 1-1 away at Gimnasia LP to make it 16 points in the Liga Profesional (seven behind leaders Huracan) and five competitive matches unbeaten (two victories and three stalemates). River remain without defeat in their last 17 as the hosting side, winning 11 and drawing six.

Talleres will have to show a great display of effort to win on the road on Wednesday after their 1-0 home defeat to River Plate last week. On Saturday, an alternative XI secured a hard-fought 2-1 home success over newcomers Independiente Rivadavia to return to the Copa Libertadores’ zone in the Argentine league aggregate table, making it 20 points in the Liga Profesional (trailing leaders Huracan by three) and stopping a six-game winless streak of four stalemates and two losses in all competitions. On away turf, Talleres managed just two points from the last 12 available.

River has now a full attack with their top scorer Miguel Borja and Facundo Collidio back from injuries, and after the 1-0 defeat at home Talleres will have to take more risks so while last week I was on the UNDER; I expect this one to be a more open game where anything can happen.
