River Plate (Argentina) v Colo Colo (Chile)
River Plate secured an important 1-1 away stalemate at CSD Colo Colo last Tuesday and are now just one win away from the Copa Libertadores’ semi-finals. On Saturday, coach Marcelo Gallardo fielded an alternative XI and his team were still able to win 1-0 away at Boca Juniors, making it 24 points in the Liga Profesional (nine behind leaders Velez Sarsfield) and holding onto their Copa Libertadores’ spot in the aggregate table. El Millonario are unbeaten in their last 11 matches, winning five and drawing six. River haven’t lost any of their last 20 as the hosting side, with 13 victories and seven stalemates.
Meanwhile, Colo Colo wasted their chance to take the first spot towards the Copa Libertadores’ semi-finals last Tuesday, when drawing against River Plate 1-1 at home. There haven’t been any league action in Chile last weekend, which keeps them in second spot on 45 points in 22 matches, trailing leaders Universidad Chile by seven with two games in hand. El Cacique lost only one of their last 16 competitive games, winning 11 and drawing four in that time. That loss (3-0 at Magallanes) broke a 13-match unbeaten run of seven victories and six stalemates as the visiting side.
River at home is very strong but the 1st leg at Chile was a very balanced game that should have been won by the hosts so I’m willing to trust them at these odds to at least take the game to a penalties shootout.
