SE Palmeiras focused on defending and had enough to secure a valuable scoreless away stalemate at Boca Juniors last Thursday, which means they would advance to their third Copa Libertadores’ final in four years in the event of winning at home. Last Sunday, coach Abel Ferreira fielded an alternative XI and his team lost 2-1 away at Red Bull Bragantino to make it three competitive matches without a win, drawing one and losing two. Following that result, O Verdao dropped down to fourth spot of the Brasileirao table on 44 points, trailing leaders Botafogo FR by eight. Palmeiras are unbeaten in their last six at home, with four victories and two stalemates.

Meanwhile, Boca Juniors will have to show a big display of effort to qualify for their first Libertadores’ final since 2018 following their scoreless home draw against SE Palmeiras last week. On Sunday, coach Jorge Almiron rested almost all his regulars and the team ended up losing 2-0 to arch-rivals River Plate at home, which means El Xeneize are on three competitive matches without a win (two draws and one defeat), having accumulated just seven points in as many matches in the Copa Liga Profesional (which keeps them out of the Libertadores’ spots in the aggregate table). Boca won only one of their last five on away turf in regular time, drawing two and losing two.

Boca played a decent game at home last week and probably deserved to win, but this should be a completely different story and losing the Superclasico at home on Sunday doesn’t help their morale at all, so I’ll go with the brazilians to win here.
