Independiente Santa Fe (Colombia) vs River Plate (Argentina)

Independiente Santa Fe are now bottom in group D having accumulated a single point following their 2-1 home defeat to Fluminense last week. On Sunday, they registered a scoreless stalemate at home against Junior in the return leg of the Colombian league quarter-finals, which left them out of the competition after their 3-1 away loss in the first leg. The team are winless in their last four competitive matches, earning only two points in the process. The same can be said about their home games. However, they will play as hosts at Cerro Porteno in Paraguay on Thursday following Colombian crisis.

River Plate celebrated a hard-fought 2-1 home win over Junior (Colombia) in round two thanks to goals from Hector Martinez and Julian Alvarez. Therefore, they are on four points, level with Fluminense at the top of the group D table. However, it was their only success across the last four competitive games (along with one draw and two defeats). On Sunday, Marcelo Gallardo’s men succumbed to a 1-0 loss away at Banfield, which dropped them down to the fourth spot in the Copa Liga Profesional’s group A, leading Rosario Central by goal difference. That defeat also stopped a six-game unbeaten streak of three wins and three draws on the road.

Can’t imagine the colombian side very focused on this game considering the protests in their country that lead to the game to be moved to Paraguay, so River should take advantage of the neutral ground and take the win.
