Huachipato (Chile) – Estudiantes (Argentina)

Huachipato FC were crowned Chilean league champions in 2023 and will return to the Copa Libertadores after ten years of absence. Last Saturday, the team had to settle for a scoreless home draw against Universidad Catolica to make it three competitive matches unbeaten (two victories and one stalemate), a streak that allowed them to climb into tenth spot of the league table on eight points in six rounds. At home, Huachipato succumbed to a single defeat across their last ten matches, winning five and drawing four in that spell.

Estudiantes will seek their fifth Copa Libertadores’ title in history after becoming Copa Argentina champions in 2023. On a sorry note, Eduardo Dominguez’s men are going through a little slump in the league: last Friday, El Pincha lost 1-0 away at Defensa y Justicia to remain on 18 points in the Copa Liga Profesional group B, trailing their last opponents (in fourth) by two with one game in hand. The side are on four consecutive defeats in all competitions, two of them on the road.

Both are struggling at the moment on their leagues, Huachipato is in mid table with a 2-2-2 record after 6 rounds, Estudiantes has lost four in a row (including the Argentina Supercup final) and won’t have strikers Guido Carrillo and Edwin Cetre here, so I expect them to be happy with a draw, play a slow, tight game that shouldn’t have many goals.
