There have been plenty of transfer movements at Defensa y Justicia this winter. Seven players arrived, including Ciro Rius (who returns from Rosario Central) and Braian Romero (Independiente). On the other hand, Neri Cardozo (to Venados FC, Mexico), Ruben Botta (Sambenedettese, Italy) and Juan Martin Lucero (Velez Sarsfield) are the most relevant departures in a total of ten.
Defensa y Justicia needs to start accumulating points after losing both Copa Libertadores’ games this year. Their 2-1 defeat at Olimpia in Paraguay back in March was El Halcon’s last competitive match in the last 6 months.
Delfin also seems to be adapting to the Copa Libertadores as they are in the group stage for the first time ever (just like their Thursday’s opponents). The team managed only one point from six on offer in Group G, having lost 1-0 to Santos in Brazil in week two. The team have already played eight games since Ecuadorian football returned, winning three, drawing two and losing three. Their 4-2 away defeat at Independiente del Valle last weekend means the side accumulated 14 points in nine weeks to occupy the ninth place. On a sorry note, Delfin managed a single point across their last six away matches.
Delfin’s form is not the best but it has to be better than Defensa’s who hasn’t played a game in ages and has a renewed squad.
