Corinthians (Brazil) vs Argentinos Jrs (Argentina)
SC Corinthians played in excellent style in their debut in group E, when beating Uruguay’s Liverpool FC 3-0 away at Estadio Centenario. On Sunday, the team also won 2-1 at home over Cruzeiro in the Brazilian league opener to make it four victories and four draws in regular time across their last nine competitive matches, along with a single defeat in that spell (2-0 at third-tier side Remo in the Copa Brasil’s round-of-32). Corinthians are on eight home matches unbeaten, with six victories and two draws.
Thanks to a strike from Javier Cabrera in the second half, Argentinos Juniors claimed an important 1-0 home success over Ecuador’s Independiente del Valle in their Copa Libertadores opener. Last Saturday, with a mixed XI, they secured a scoreless away draw at Huracan despite seeing two red cards during the game. Gabriel Milito’s men accumulated 18 points in 12 rounds in the Liga Profesional to occupy eighth spot of the table. On a sorry note, Argentinos are on three away games without a win, drawing two and losing one without even scoring since beating Tigre 1-0 in early March.
Argentinos has been solid in the local league but this strong Corinthians team should be a step above their level and should claim their 2nd victory in this competition.
