Boca Juniors vs The Strongest
Boca Juniors wasted a big chance last Thursday, when they drew 0-0 at home against Barcelona SC. However, the team remain depending on themselves to advance to the Copa Libertadores’ round-of-16. El Xeneize are second-placed in the group C table on seven points and would qualify in the event of beating The Strongest on Wednesday. The league semi-final against Racing Club, originally scheduled for last Sunday, has been postponed to next Monday. Overall, Boca are on five winless matches in all competitions, drawing two in regular time and losing three. However, they haven’t lost any of the last six at home (four victories and two stalemates).
The Strongest remain bottom in group C, but keep their hope alive after winning their last two games in this competition. Last week, they beat Santos 2-1 at home to make it six points in four games and will advance to the round-of-16 if they beat Boca Juniors and Santos don’t win in Ecuador at Barcelona SC. Speaking of the league, which is cancelled for now, El Tigre are leaders on 16 points (along with Bolivar and Nacional Potosi, but with one game in hand). The Strongest won their last three competitive games, but were beaten in the last two on away turf.
Boca will need to win to advance but I feel this is a huge handicap considering how bad they’ve been lately.
