Boca (Argentina) – Pereira (Colombia)
Boca Juniors are going through a deep crisis. In the Copa Libertadores’ opener, the team drew 0-0 away at Monagas SC in an intense game. Last Saturday, they succumbed to a 1-0 home defeat to Estudiantes, dropping down to the 19th spot of the league table on 14 points and also extending their winless streak to four matches in all competitions, drawing one and losing three since their 3-0 away win at Barracas Central on April 1st. To make matters worse, Boca have been winless in the last four at home, with one stalemate and three defeats in that time.
Deportivo Pereira made their international debut two weeks ago and left very good impressions, registering a 1-1 home draw against Colo Colo. On Saturday, they also drew at home against Independiente Santa Fe through a 2-2 scoreline. In fact, El Grande Matecana are on six matches unbeaten in all competitions, winning one and drawing five in that stretch. On away turf, Pereira registered two wins, two draws and four defeats in 2023 so far. Speaking of the league, they occupy 12th spot of the Torneo Apertura table on 17 points in 14 rounds, trailing the last playoff place by one.
Boca is in a terrible run but this looks like a great spot for them to recover and get a very needed win. Pereira was the last champion in the colombian league but since then they sold some of their best players and now they are in the middle of the table, so I expect Boca to take advantage of a weaker rival and take the first win in this competition.
