Boca vs Gimnasia
Boca Juniors three-match winning streak in league action came to an end last Sunday, when the side showed a disappointing performance and succumbed to a 2-0 away defeat at Velez Sarsfield. As a result, El Xeneize remain on 30 points in the Liga Profesional’s table, running out of chances to fight for the title. However, they continue occupying one of the Copa Libertadores’ spots in the 2021 aggregate rankings (considering that one new berth will open if River Plate, Talleres or Velez Sarsfield win the title). At home, Boca are on seven league matches unbeaten, with four victories and three draws in that spell.
Gimnasia LP had to settle for a 2-2 home draw against CA Central Cordoba at Estadio Unico Ciudad de La Plata in an entertaining game last Saturday. Even though it’s bad news for them, the team are on four league games without defeat, having won two and drawn two to make it 25 points in the league table, which allows them to remain away from the bottom spots in the relegation table and dream of fighting for a ticket to the Copa Sudamericana (they now trail Argentinos Juniors by three points in the aggregate table).
Boca is far from their old good days but they still should be able to beat this irregular Gimnasia at home.
