Velez vs San Lorenzo
Velez Sarsfield continue to get worse game after game. Last time out, the team suffered a deserved 2-1 away defeat to Colon following a worrying performance. Therefore, the team are winless in their last five league matches (with three stalemates and two losses in that stretch). The negative streak means El Fortin remain on 15 points after 13 rounds of Liga Profesional action, which places them in 16th spot of the table. At home, Velez are unbeaten in the last four, but they won only one of those games alongside three draws. Winger Lucas Janson (who served a one-game suspension) is ready to return on Saturday. Leonardo Burian, Leonardo Jara and Diego Godin remain out injured.
San Lorenzo continue to fly high in the league. Last Sunday, they celebrated a hard-fought 1-0 home success over Platense thanks to a goal from Rafael Perez in the 93rd minute. Through that win, El Ciclon remain sitting in second spot of the Liga Profesional table on 27 points, trailing leaders River Plate by six. El Ciclon have been unbeaten in their last five league games, winning three and drawing two in that spell. In addition, San Lorenzo succumbed to a single defeat in their last five away games in domestic action (to Newell’s Old Boys 1-0 in March, along with two victories and two stalemates.
Great opportunity for San Lorenzo to cut the distance from River after the leader drew on Friday, and they should be able to at least avoid a defeat against this poor Velez.
