Velez vs Racing Club

Velez Sarsfield wasted their last chance of advancing to the Fase Campeonato last time out, when drawing 0-0 at Patronato. That result prevented them from climbing into second spot in group 6 and they ended up trailing Gimnasia LP by goal difference in spite of having lost only one game (two wins and three draws to make it nine points). At home, they took four points as a product of one win in this competition, one draw and one loss. On Tuesday 8, Velez lost 2-1 at home against Chile’s Universidad Catolica in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana’s quarter-finals.
Pablo Galdames and Ricardo Alvarez remain sidelined, as well as Thiago Almada who has recently succumbed to a muscle injury. The XI will be a gametime decision, but the usual starters will certainly rest.

Racing Club closed up their sorry first stage with a 1-0 away defeat to Sarandi Arsenal in matchweek 6. The team managed only three points as a product of one victory and five defeats to end up bottom in group 1. They are yet to earn points on away turf in the Copa Liga Profesional, having lost all three games so far. Racing Club coach Sebastian Beccacece will continue to pick an alternative XI in the Copa Liga Profesional as he prioritises the Copa Libertadores and the team will play the first leg of the quarter-finals next Wednesday.

Neither of this teams is really interested in this game as they have more important international commitments next week, but Racing has a deeper squad and will have veteran striker Dario Cvitanich up front, so I expect them to get something out of this game.
