Velez vs Platense

Velez Sarsfield new coach Alexander Medina will have felt worried after the team’s 1-1 away draw at relegation candidates Patronato in his debut. El Fortin made it four league matches unbeaten, having won two and drawn two in that span; however, they continue out of the continental spots in the aggregate table. On a positive note, Velez succumbed to a single defeat across their last 17 home matches in domestic action, winning ten and drawing six in the process.

Last weekend, Platense secured a massive win in their fight to avoid relegation: they beat direct contenders Godoy Cruz 2-1 at home (with Gonzalo Bergessio and Mauro Zarate scoring from the penalty spot) to continue escaping the drop zone (they climbed into 24th spot in that table). In addition, Omar De Felippe’s men put an end to a 11-match winless streak of three draws and eight defeats in league action. On a sorry note, El Calamar are struggling on the road: they are winless in the last 11 games, drawing five and losing six since beating Racing Club 1-0 in October.

Velez has improved lately and they should beat this Platense that has been just terrible away from their stadium.
