Velez vs Huracan
Velez Sarsfield played a remarkable second half last Thursday and had enough to reverse the score away at Deportivo Riestra: they won 2-1 after trailing first thanks to a strike from Lenny Lobato in stoppage time. Gustavo Quinteros’ men made it two Copa Liga Profesional victories in a row to accumulate seven points in group A and continue escaping the relegation zone in the point-average table. Velez lost only one of their last four home matches, winning two and drawing one.
Huracan couldn’t hold onto their lead and suffered an unexpected 3-1 away defeat to Gimnasia LP following a poor performance. Therefore, Facundo Sava’s men extended their winless run to four league matches, drawing one and losing three since beating Banfield 2-0 away in the season opener. In fact, El Globo accumulated only four points in five Copa Liga Profesional rounds so far. Huracan also are on two consecutive losses as the visiting side. Centre back Fernando Tobio succumbed to a muscle injury and will miss out.
Velez found some peace after the 0-5 defeat at River, looking improved in consecutive wins vs Gimnasia and Riestra. Huracan is the opposite, they are looking worse week after week and with the derby vs San Lorenzo just one week away they have to be worried. They won’t have their best defender, Fernando Tobio, who is injured so I’ll go here with the hosts to continue with their good run.
