Velez vs Godoy Cruz
Velez Sarsfield seem to have found a bit of air since new coach Sebastian Mendez’s arrival. Last Tuesday, the team celebrated a hard-fought 1-0 away success at fourth-placed Lanus thanks to a strike from Walter Bou in the first half. It was their second victory in as many matches under the new man in charge, which allowed them to accumulate 24 points, leading Huracan (who occupy the relegation spot) by five. Velez grabbed 16 of those points at home, winning three, drawing seven and losing two this term.
Godoy Cruz extended their excellent form last Wednesday, when they secured a massive 2-1 home success over Platense at Gimnasia Mendoza, with striker Enzo Larrosa netting the winner in the 85th minute. El Tomba are now on three league matches unbeaten, having won two and drawn one, to continue consolidating their Copa Sudamericana spot in the aggregate table accumulating 36 points. On a sorry note, Godoy Cruz have been winless in their last five away matches, with three stalemates and two defeats since beating CA Central Cordoba 2-0 in April.
Velez is in good form but this should be a tough game for them as they will host this very in-form Godoy Cruz, one of the best attacking teams of the season (who has scored in 6 of their last 7 games) so while the game can go either side, I like the chances of seeing at least a couple of goals here.
