Velez vs Godoy Cruz

Velez Sarsfield continue producing a poor campaign in the Liga Profesional. Last Wednesday, the team had to settle for a 1-1 away draw at Huracan to accumulate seven points, having claimed only one victory in eight matches (along with four stalemates and three defeats). However, they remain occupying one of the Copa Libertadores’ places thanks to their remarkable performance in the first semester.

Godoy Cruz are now on three league matches without a win (taking a single point in that time) as a result of their 2-1 home defeat to Union Santa Fe last Thursday. Sebastian Mendez’s men have produced an irregular campaign so far, accumulating ten points. That means they are sharing the penultimate spot of the relegation table with Huracan (only above bottom-placed Platense). Furthermore, El Tomba also lost their last two away matches in this competition (to Colon and Lanus).  

Huge quality difference between these two teams, even if Velez has been struggling so far this season. Godoy Cruz will several important players who are injured: Nelson Acevedo, Elias Lopez, Guillermo Ortiz and Matias Ramirez will miss out again, as well as Nicolas Sanchez, who arrived from Mexican side Monterrey with a knee problem, so I expect a home win.
