Velez vs Colon
Velez Sarsfield are the only team who haven’t yet scored in the Liga Profesional after their scoreless stalemate away at Atletico Tucuman last Monday. Even though they have produced a poor campaign so far, with only three points in four games, El Fortin remain at the top of the 2021 aggregate table. At home, they are on six league games without defeat (winning three and drawing three in regular time). Velez Sarsfield coach Mauricio Pellegrino will miss Thiago Almada, who has been sold to MLS side Atlanta Utd. after the Olympics.
After one draw and one defeat, Colon returned to winning ways last weekend, when beating Godoy Cruz 1-0 at home thanks to a direct free-kick netted by Cristian Ferreira (who wasn’t expected to be able to play) in the second half. The defending champions made it seven points from the first 12 on offer in the Liga Profesional and now they trail leaders San Lorenzo, Independiente and Racing Club by one.
Velez won’t have playmaker Thiago Almada anymore as he was sold to the MLS, and their best winger, Ricardo Centurion, is suspended so I can’t see how they will be better in offense after spending the first 4 rounds without even scoring a goal.
