Velez vs. Central Cordoba
Vélez Sarsfield suffered a major disappointment last weekend, as they squandered a two-goal lead and ended up losing 3-2 away to Gimnasia y Esgrima de Mendoza following a stoppage-time own goal by Emanuel Mammana. It marked a second consecutive defeat for El Fortín, who nevertheless remain top of Group A with 22 points. At home, they have collected 10 points from a possible 15, recording three wins, one draw, and one defeat. They won 4-1 over Deportivo Armenio on Tuesday, April 7, in the first round of the Copa Argentina. For Monday’s league match, Lucas Robertone has recovered from a muscle injury and is available again.
CA Central Córdoba once again delivered a poor performance and suffered a highly concerning result last weekend, falling 3-1 at home to Newell’s Old Boys, one of the weakest sides in the league so far this season. As a result, they have now lost back-to-back matches, underlining a clear downturn in form. The team coached by Lucas Pusineri collected just 12 points from 12 matches in the Torneo Apertura, leaving them five points adrift of the final playoff spot in Group A and only six points above the relegation zone in the overall standings. In fact, their struggles have been even more pronounced as the visiting side: they are winless in their last seven league outings —three draws and four defeats—.
Velez should retake the 1st place of the group here against the very weak Central Cordoba who will miss their starting goalkeeper Alan Aguerre as well as defenders Pignani and Maciel who are suspended.
