Velez vs Barracas Central
Velez Sarsfield are hoping this season will end soon. Last Sunday, the team succumbed to their 2-0 away defeat at Tigre following a terrible performance. As a result, El Fortin extended their winless streak to 15 league matches (drawing nine and losing six). The team remain on 13 points in the Liga Profesional (with one game in hand), which places them in the bottom spot of the league table (level with Aldosivi). At home, Velez are on six domestic games without a win, having drawn four and losing two in that span.
Barracas Central almost secured their top-flight status for next season last weekend, when they managed to beat Godoy Cruz 3-1 at home following a convincing performance. El Guapo made it three league games unbeaten (winning two and drawing one) to accumulate 27 points in the Liga Profesional, which also places them two points behind the last Copa Sudamericana spot in the aggregate table (would be a first in the club’s history).
Velez needs this season to end fast to put it behind them, Barracas found a new life under their new coach and they should be able to avoid a defeat here.
