Velez vs Atletico Tucuman
Velez Sarsfield showed another interesting performance last Sunday to secure a valuable 1-1 stalemate on their visit to Independiente. As a result, the last league runners-up made it four points in three Liga Profesional rounds and remain occupying one of the Copa Sudamericana places in the aggregate table after losing only one of their last eight (along with three victories and four stalemates). At home, Velez have been unbeaten in the last seven, winning five and drawing two since losing to Independiente 1-0 in January. Captain Valentin Gomez is available after missing the last match due to a fever.
Atletico Tucuman were unlucky to register a 1-1 home stalemate against Platense last Monday after wasting several goalscoring chances to win the game. El Decano made it four points in three rounds in the Liga Profesional, opening a healthy eight-point gap over the relegation zone in the aggregate table (after winning only one of their last four in league action, along with one draw and two losses). Atletico Tucuman are without a win in their last eight on away turf, drawing two and losing six.
Atletico are definitely improved from the poor team they were in the first semester and today they will have striker Marcelo Estigarribia back, so while Velez is a clear favorite, I think this is a game where anything can happen and I like the chance of both teams scoring at least one so I’ll go for the low totals over.
