Vélez -Rosario Central
Velez Sarsfield’s crisis is getting deeper week after week. In round 15, they put up a good fight for most of the time, but were still unable to claim points on their visit to Estudiantes, losing 2-0. That result means El Fortin are now on seven league games without a win (four stalemates and three defeats), dropping down to the 22th place of the Liga Profesional table on 16 points, and they need to improve soon in order to avoid relegation threats. Velez are unbeaten in the last five at home, but they won only one and drew four in that spell. Midfielder Jose Florentin is suspended after reaching the yellow-card limit at Estudiantes. Valentin Gomez is involved in the U20 World Cup.
Rosario Central returned to winning ways after three league games (two draws and one defeat) last time out, when they claimed an easy 4-0 home success over Platense following a convincing performance. El Canalla continue producing a remarkable campaign in the Liga Profesional, occupying seventh spot on 26 points after losing only one of their last nine matches in this competition (four wins and four draws). On a sorry note, Central are winless in the last three on the road, having drawn two and lost one since beating Huracan 2-0 in March.
I’m going to trust Central again this week after their great win last week. Velez has been terrible, they’ll have a couple of important missings in midfield and should have a hard time beating this solid Rosario.
