Velez – Platense
Velez Sarsfield showed great improvements after coach Alexander Medina’s departure. Last time out, the team claimed a massive 2-1 away success at Talleres (who were leaders beforehand) under interim boss Marcelo Bravo, a result that put an end to their four-match winless streak of two draws and two defeats in Liga Profesional action. El Fortin made it eight points in six rounds, occupying 17th spot at the moment. At home, Velez managed four points from nine on offer this term as a product of one victory, one stalemate and one defeat. Coach Ricardo Gareca will start his second spell at the club on Monday.
Platense are still facing trouble to find their best version. The team wasted a big chance last time out, when they drew 1-1 against CA Central Cordoba at home after conceding the equaliser with just six minutes to go in a six-pointer regarding relegation. Therefore, El Calamar continue occupying one of the drop spots in the point-average table, four points behind their last opponents and Sarmiento who are safe. In fact, Martin Palermo’s men managed six points in as many matches this season, having not won any of the last four (two draws and two losses).
Having Ricardo Gareca back as coach should be a big morale boost for Velez, specially in front of their fans, and that Platense will miss 3 of their starting defenders should also help them.
