Velez – Lanus

Velez Sarsfield had to fight more than expected in their last league game. The 1-1 away stalemate at newcomers Deportivo Riestra means El Fortin made it six league matches unbeaten in league action, but they won just two of those and drew the other four. That means Gustavo Quinteros’ men remain as Liga Profesional leaders on 43 points, but leading second-placed Huracan by just one. Velez haven’t lost any of their last 16 at home, winning 12 and drawing four in that spell.

Lanus wasted a big chance in their fight to qualify for one of the continental competitions in 2025 last time out, when they had to settle for an unexpected scoreless home stalemate against direct contenders Platense. El Granate made it three league games unbeaten (two victories and one draw). Accumulating 27 points in 22 Liga Profesional rounds, Ricardo Zielinski’s men remain two points behind the last Copa Sudamericana berth in the aggregate table. Lanus beat Talleres 2-1 in their last away game to break a ten-match winless run of four draws and six losses on the road in domestic action.

Velez are the leaders and biggest candidates to win this league despite slowing down lately and I expect them to beat Lanus at home where they are very strong and have a very long undefeated run.
