Velez – Arsenal
Velez Sarsfield couldn’t hold onto their 1-0 lead and ended up suffering a devastating 2-1 away defeat at Gimnasia LP (who hadn’t earned any points beforehand). El Fortin are producing an irregular campaign in the Copa Liga Profesional, having grabbed six points in four rounds as a product of two victories and two losses. Therefore, they remain threatened by relegation, leading Huracan (who occupy the drop spot in the aggregate table) by just two points. On a positive note, Velez are on five home matches unbeaten, having won three and drawn two since losing to Argentinos Juniors 1-0 in June.
Sarandi Arsenal took another step towards the second division last Sunday, when they couldn’t stop River Plate’s offensive power and ended up losing 3-1 on their visit to the defending champions. Having won one and lost three in the Copa Liga Profesional, El Viaducto remain on three points in group A, which keeps them bottom in the aggregate table and also in the point-average table, trailing Platense by 20 points with ten rounds to go. Coach Federico Vilar resigned earlier this week. Arsenal also are winless in their last 13 as the visiting side, drawing three and losing ten in that spell. Interim boss Dario Espinola will take over on Wednesday.
If Velez can’t win at home against the worst team in the league that will be mathematically relegated soon, they will be in big trouble so I’ll trust them here to take the 3 points they desperately need.
