Velez – Arsenal

Velez Sarsfield claimed a deserved 2-1 away success at Newell’s Old Boys last Friday (with Juan Lucero and Cristian Tarragona scoring) to remain as the best team in the 2021 season. Following that result, the team made it nine league matches without defeat (six victories and three draws) and made it 24 points in the Liga Profesional, occupying fifth place in this tournament’s table. At home, Velez are on five league games unbeaten, having taken 13 points from 15 on offer in that spell.

Sarandi Arsenal played a decent game last Monday, but they had to settle for a 0-0 home draw against Godoy Cruz in an entertaining match. Having won only one of their last 12 league matches (along with five stalemates and six defeats), the team accumulated only 12 points in 15 rounds so far. However, they are no longer bottom in the league table (Israel Damonte’s men are now one point above CA Central Cordoba). On away turf, Arsenal are on eight league games without a win, having taken a single point since beating Defensa y Justicia 1-0 in April.

A very strong Velez shouldn’t have any problems to beat one of the worst teams in the league at home.
