Union vs Platense
Union Santa Fe showed a great upgrade in their skills last Tuesday and had enough to secure a valuable scoreless away stalemate at group B leaders Godoy Cruz. However, El Tatengue remain producing a poor campaign in general terms, accumulating five points in as many matches after a streak of four without a win (drawing two and losing two since beating Racing Club 1-0 away in the season opener. In addition, Union remain pointless at their own stadium this term, having lost to Estudiantes and Newell’s Old Boys so far.
Platense rescued a home point last Thursday, when they had a rough night and ended up drawing 1-1 against Belgrano at home thanks to Ronaldo Martinez’s goal in the 88th minute. The 2023 runners up are now performing quite irregularly in the Copa Liga Profesional, accumulating five points in as many matches under coach Sebastian Grazzini. In fact, El Calamar won only one of their last eight league matches, along with four stalemates and three defeats. To make matters worse, Platense are on five away matches without a win, drawing two and losing three in that spell.
Even if Union have two consecutive defeats playing at home, it was against two of the toughest rivals they could have, Estudiantes and Newell’s. The’ve played very decent games away, like the win at Racing and draws at San Lorenzo and Godoy Cruz so I think they should have enough to beat this poor Platense that has been quite terrible lately.
