Union vs Lanus
Union Santa Fe couldn’t hold onto their 1-0 lead and had to settle for a 1-1 away draw at Huracan in an intense match last Monday. As a result, Juan Manuel Azconzabal’s men made it two points in as many rounds in the 2021 season. Therefore, El Tatengue are on three league matches without a win (two draws and one loss). To make matters worse, they haven’t been confident at home lately: just one victory in the last five in league action (drawing one and losing three).
Lanus are leaders in group B (alongside Velez Sarsfield) on six points in two rounds following their convincing 2-1 home success over Defensa y Justicia thanks to goals from Tomas Belmonte and Jose Sand in the first half. In fact, that win extended their unbeaten run to four league matches, having drawn one and won three straight. On away turf, Luis Zubeldia’s men took seven points from the last 12 on offer in domestic action as a product of two victories, one draw and one loss.
7 of the last 8 times these two teams met we had at least 2 goals (and in 5 of those we had three or more) and I expect this trend to continue as Union has scored and conceded in the first two rounds.
