Union – Godoy Cruz

Thanks to a strike from Bruno Pitton in the second half, Union Santa Fe secured a massive point on their visit to Lanus last Friday, when drawing 1-1 in an intense game. El Tatengue continue to produce a remarkable campaign in the Liga Profesional, accumulating 24 points despite having not won any of their last three matches (two stalemates and one defeat in that spell). In fact, Cristian Gonzalez’s men remain occupying one of the Copa Sudamericana spots in the aggregate table. At home, Union remain unbeaten in their last seven, winning five and drawing two. Nicolas Paz collected his tenth yellow card in the Liga Profesional and is suspended for Friday.

Godoy Cruz are still failing to find their best version. Last Sunday, the team settled for another disappointing 1-1 home stalemate against relegation candidates Sarmiento. Even though they remain unbeaten in their last six in league action (three victories and three draws) to make it 18 points in the Liga Profesional (with one game in hand), El Tomba wasted another chance of climbing into the Copa Libertadores’ zone in the aggregate table as they trail fourth-placed Talleres by one point. Godoy Cruz won only one of their last seven away matches, drawing three and losing three. Right back Lucas Arce is suspended for Friday after reaching the yellow-card limit. Nicolas Fernandez misses out again due to an ankle problem.

Union has been disappointing lately winning only one of the last 6 and I expect them to struggle again here against this Godoy Cruz that is finding some regularity losing one of the last 7 matches.
