Tigre vs Argentinos Juniors
Tigre continue making history on their return to the top flight. Last Wednesday, the team played a brilliant game to beat defending champions River Plate 2-1 away and advance to the semi-finals, looking for their second national title. Thanks to goals from Mateo Retegui and Facundo Colidio, El Matador also put an end to their four-match winless streak of one draw and three defeats in league action. Furthermore, coach Diego Martinez has a complete squad to choose from on Sunday.
Argentinos Juniors clinched their ticket to the Copa Liga Profesional’s semi-finals by beating group B winners Estudiantes on penalties following a 1-1 away draw (despite having played with ten men for over 30 minutes). Gabriel Milito’s men continue showing improvements and they made it six league games without defeat, having won three and drawn three in regular time since their 4-2 away defeat at River Plate in round nine. Captain Miguel Torren reached the yellow-card limit and is suspended, as well as playmaker Matias Galarza, who saw a red card at Estudiantes.
Tigre showed their solid attack with the unexpected win at River and Argentinos will miss their best defender, so even though I’m not sure who will advance, I expect at least a couple of goals.
