Talleres vs River Plate
Talleres played one of their best matches of the season last Monday, when they beat last league runners-up Racing Club 4-2 away from home, with striker Michael Santos and Diego Valoyes netting a brace each. La T made it two consecutive victories to accumulate 27 points in the Liga Profesional, which keeps them in fourth spot of the respective table (currently qualifying for the 2024 Copa Libertadores). Talleres are unbeaten in their last three matches at Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes, having won two and drawn one since losing to Banfield 1-0 in March. There are no relevant injury news for coach Javier Gandolfi to host league leaders River Plate on Sunday.
River Plate took another big step towards a new league title last Sunday. With Miguel Borja netting a penalty in the 93rd minute, they won the Superclasico by beating Boca Juniors 1-0 at home. Martin Demichelis’ men remain as league leaders on 37 points (eight above second-placed San Lorenzo) after ten league matches without defeat (nine victories and one draw since round five, when they lost to Sarandi Arsenal 2-1 at home). On away turf, River haven’t lost any of the last six in domestic action, winning five and drawing one.
River’s run is absolutely impressive and with 12 rounds left there are almost no doubts that they are going to win the championship, but they are not going to win every game, and a visit to this solid Talleres is a game where they might lose points.
