Talleres – River

Following coach Alexander Medina’s decision to rest three of his regulars, Talleres succumbed to a devastating 1-0 away defeat at Colon last Sunday. However, their campaign is still remarkable as the team continue occupying the second place in the Liga Profesional’s table on 32 points, now four behind leaders River Plate after losing only two of the last 13 league games (nine wins and two draws). The team also are sitting into the Copa Libertadores’ zone in the 2021 aggregate table. Furthermore, Talleres are on 11 home matches unbeaten, having won eight (including the last five) and drawn three.

River Plate are nine games away from their first league title since 2014. Last Sunday, the team managed a 3-1 home victory over San Lorenzo thanks to a hat-trick from Julian Alvarez. As a result, the league leaders made it 36 points, opening a four-point gap over their next opponents, who are second-placed. El Millonario also are at the top of the 2021 aggregate table after 11 league matches without defeat in the Liga Profesional, winning nine and drawing two.

Talleres knows that a defeat here means that River will have a 7 points difference that would be impossible to overcome, so they just can’t lose while River could be happy with one point to keep their 4 points distance at the top.
