Sarmiento vs River Plate
Sarmiento are still in the fight for a ticket to the playoffs thanks to a scoreless away draw at Argentinos Juniors. The team made it four league games unbeaten (three victories and one stalemate) and accumulated 21 points in group A, trailing their last opponents (who are occupying the last qualifying berth) by goal difference. Israel Damonte’s men have been confident at home this season, registering four victories and two draws in the Copa Liga Profesional so far.
River Plate produced a poor performance in their latest league game last Sunday, when they settled for a 1-1 home draw against Atletico Tucuman. However, having lost only one of their last five matches in the Copa Liga Profesional (along with three victories and one draw), El Millonario remain second-placed in group A on 23 points, five behind leaders Racing Club. On away turf, Marcelo Gallardo’s men took 12 of those points following four victories and two defeats in this competition.
River is of course the best team here but they’ve been irregular lately in the league, they had a tough midweek game at Chile in Libertadores so I expect this game to be tighter than what the odds say.
