Sarmiento vs Argentinos Jrs
Sarmiento took a valuable point on their visit to Belgrano last Monday, when they showed a great display of effort to keep it scoreless. However, the team also made it three league games without a win (one draw and two defeats). Accumulating nine points in as many matches this term, El Verde remain occupying one of the relegation spots in the point-average table, trailing Platense (who are safe) by two points. Sarmiento lost three out of four matches at Estadio Eva Peron in 2023, just beating Rosario Central in this competition. There is no relevant injury news for coach Israel Damonte thinking of Saturday.
Argentinos Juniors are progressively starting to show their best version. In their last league game, the team claimed a highly celebrated 3-0 home success over Godoy Cruz, which means they are unbeaten in their last four league games, winning two and drawing two. Following that run, El Bicho are now on 14 points, occupying seventh place in the Liga Profesional table and trailing leaders River Plate by seven. Argentinos managed only four points from 15 available on the road, but all four were claimed across the last two games. On Tuesday 4, Argentinos won 1-0 at home over Ecuador’s Independiente del Valle in a Copa Libertadores group game. Playmaker Alan Rodriguez played that game after recovering from a muscle injury. Captain Miguel Torren continues to recover from his muscle problem.
After their midweek game in Copa Libertadores Argentinos will play against next Tuesday and with a very busy ahead in the next few weeks it’s very likely that they could rotate their starters here, so I’ll trust Sarmiento not to lose at home.
